Sunblast is the main antagonist in the episode “The Dreadful Dawn” of the 2017 Cartoon Network animated TV series Villainous, and the main protagonist of the comic Villainous: Rescate Reducido.
He is a superhero who is Penumbra's archenemy up until falling into her captivity. Upon which, he starts to help her out.
Overview
Sunblast is a hero, but only by name, who protects his city from Penumbra's plans to block out the sun (and possibly from other villains). He defeats her several times, but sadistically likes to beat her up, then he becomes the target of the Black Hat group. Despite his classically heroic motif and good publicity, Sunblast is also an egomaniac who likes to beat up villains.
Following his capture at the hands of Flug, 5.0.5, and Dementia, he begins to mellow out and becomes less hostile toward Penumbra. Eventually he starts helping her out in her efforts to find a cure for her condition.
Abilities
His solar powers aside, Sunblast's main thing seems to be flying, hitting things really hard, and tanking the things that try and hit him back.
Personality
Sunblast was originally only a hero in name. Straight up telling Penumbra that the only reason he's letting her go was because he enjoyed beating her up and seeing her suffer. And he immediately attacked Doctor Flug, who at that point hadn't even done anything.
After being defeated and forced to live with Penumbra, Sunblast underwent a very prominent change in character. Though he is still flashy and pompous, Sunblast was able to see the other side of his conflict with Penumbra and learn just how deeply the Numbra syndrome affected people, and developed a close friendship with the person he once hated. He was also likely humbled when he saw the launch of "The New Dawn", and his self-esteem may have taken a hit when he saw how quickly the city who once adored him moved so quickly to replace him. His friendship with Penumbra noticeably softened him, and he is now genuinely concerned with the safety and well-being of others, to the point where he has now set out to rescue his archenemy-turned-friend from another superhero.
